Winter 2025 Announcement

Lunar New Year Celabration_2.jpeg

Dear Friends,

I. Happy New Year!

We have had the chance to ring in a new year on January 1, 2025 as well as on January 29, 2025 when the Lunar New Year began. On Sunday, February 2, 2025, lay-friends of Thong Tri Temple hosted a Lunar New Year celebration including a performance of the traditional lion/dragon dance. This performance signifies an invitation for good luck throughout the year. The lion/dragon is a symbol of bravery, power, and good luck.

We wish you prosperity, peace, and happiness in the new year!

II. The First Noble Truth updated

We have recently reviewed and revised our First Noble Truth Wisdom Blog. This blog was first written during the Pandemic at the height of our fears about sickness and death simply from interacting with one another. There was so much attachment to our former way of life and uncertainty about what the future would look like. The fundamental message of the Noble Truths - to be conscious in the present moment - was extremely valuable during the Pandemic and still applies today. We’ve updated some of the language and examples to make it more accessible to those who are new to Buddhism.

III. Mindfulness Meditation continues

Phuong ‘s weekly sessions of Mindfulness Meditation are held via Zoom, every Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. (PDT). The next online session will occur on Tuesday, February 18, 2024. Please register here.

Each online meditation session includes 30 minutes of meditating together followed by 20 minutes of group sharing and Q&A led by Phuong. The group sharing and Q&A portion is a valuable part of the process for participants to reflect on the meditation session together and build community.

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Please make sure your email address is entered correctly. To minimize interruptions, participants must arrive no later than 7:15 p.m. (PDT) to be admitted.

Palo Alto Library will continue to host in-person Mindfulness Meditation at Mitchell Park Library in Palo Alto, CA every Saturday at 1pm (PDT). The next in-person meditation session will occur on Saturday, February 22, 2024.  You can find more information here.
